When I moved to Tofino I made a bucket list of things I wanted to do before I left, one the items on the list that I was really keen to do was a seaplane tour. This list is pinned on the wall of our shed and so Nathan knew that this was something I really wanted to do. And so, for Christmas this past year, Nathan gifted me a coastal seaplane tour from Tofino Air.
We were waiting for a clear-sunny day to go on the tour since the winter weather has either been sunny and clear skies, or grey and overcast. We originally had chosen a date of February 7th, but ended up having guests that weekend so had to reschedule our tour to February 14th (Valentines Day)!
The weather ended up being FANTASTIC – blue skies and sunny. The flight was scheduled for 10:30am and left right on time. We met the pilot at the Tofino Air office which is located at the Government Docks in town. The only people booked for this tour was Nathan and I – making it our own little plane tour. The flight was 30 minutes in length and we flew over Cox Bay, North and South Chesterman Beach, the town of Tofino, and over Clayoquot Sound. The views were AMAZING and it was super cool to see the places we go often from a new vantage point. We also flew over the areas where we have gone on sea kayak trips before. I instantly recognized the area where I almost got seasick!
This was easily one of the coolest things I have ever been able to do and was a fantastic way to see Tofino from a new angle. We brought both our phones and film cameras to capture some of the views we could see from the plane windows. If you’re ever wondering if you should book a seaplane tour of Tofino, I would highly recommend it!
